Went to St. Augustine school with two of your sons and entered many surf contest Hawaii Surf Club. Great memories being on the beach. Mahalo to your family.

I was a Lifeguard in Waikiki from 1985-1995 and was fortunate enough to get to know Pops, Leroy and Bobby pretty good.. I cant describe how proficient both Leroy and Bobby were on a tandem board with a modified oar before the SUP craze. They did some amazing stuff while taking pictures of tourists. They were also incredible in a canoe. I saw Bobby take off on the largest first break wave I've ever seen in a commercial canoe and pull it off. It was amazing. Colorful characters and amazing watermen the entire Ah Choy family.

I surfed in Waikiki thru the 1980s and was fortunate to get to know Johnny. Early morning surf sessions out to Populars with Johnny and Mendez. I was so pleased to see this website telling the story of Johnny's life and how stand up paddling started. My memories of Johnny's family - Bobby, Leroy, Michael, David and Judy as well as countless beach boys and surfers are precious to me. Although so many are gone now, my aloha for them and beautiful Hawaii remains.
